At 3:42 am on July 4, 2019, our department along with Grassy Pond and Macedoina were dispatched to a commercial fire in the 1100 block of Champion Ferry Rd at the former Peeler Rug Mill Building. Crews arrived to find the 60,000 square foot building, which was currently being used to grind and recycle plastic car parts, heavily involved in fire. Another wharehouse as well as a residential structure were immediately threatened but ulitmately spared. It would take nealry 100 fireifhgters and 20 fire departments from NC and SC 40 hours to control the fire.
